[Equipment Section] Forklift Safety Requirements
A side note: Safety management is one of the important responsibilities of warehouse management. Whether it's information security, equipment safety, material safety, personnel safety, fire safety, or operational safety, all must be operated according to standard requirements to minimize safety hazards. Today, I'll share the safety requirements for using forklifts in the warehouse. The key points summarized are "certified, regular inspection, focused attention, slow driving, and no violations," for your reference. You can modify them according to the actual requirements of your warehouse.
Forklift Safety Requirements:
1. Qualification Requirements
(1) Forklift drivers must be trained and obtain the corresponding certificate before they can work. Unlicensed personnel are strictly prohibited from driving forklifts.
(2) The company should set up dedicated training personnel to train employees. Personnel without the corresponding qualifications are not allowed to use forklifts.
2. Pre-driving Inspection
(1) Check promptly whether the turn signals, brakes, horn, headlights, and rearview mirrors are intact; whether the forks are bent, damaged, or cracked.
(2) Check promptly whether the water tank level and battery water level are sufficient. If insufficient, it should be added according to standard requirements or standard lines before use.
3. Driving Requirements
(1) All forklift users must use the dedicated forklift key. The key must not be removed when starting, and other non-forklift keys must never be used to start the forklift to avoid damaging the vehicle.
(2) The forklift must travel in the "right up, left down" direction. Slow down and sound the horn when entering or exiting the forklift. Drivers must concentrate and avoid carelessness.
(3) When starting the forklift, carefully observe the surroundings for other vehicles, pedestrians, or obstacles. When turning, check the rearview mirror and observe the left and right sides, turn on the indicator lights, drive slowly, and sound the horn. When reversing, check the rearview mirror and look back to ensure there are no obstacles before proceeding.
(4) Maintain a safe distance between the vehicle and the road edge. When the forklift is carrying materials, reverse and control the speed when going downhill. Drive slowly up and down slopes, and coasting in neutral is strictly prohibited when going downhill. (5) When driving, the forks should be 200-300mm above the ground. Lifting or lowering the load is not permitted while driving. Sudden braking and high-speed turns are prohibited.
(6) Comply with the company's and relevant standards regarding speed limits. The speed must not exceed 5km/h; high-speed driving is strictly prohibited to ensure safety.
(7) At intersections or other locations with poor visibility, slow down and sound the horn. Reduce speed when driving on wet or uneven ground and when turning. Avoid sharp turns and driving on unstable surfaces.
(8) When stopping during transport, the power must be turned off before leaving the forklift.
(9) Pay attention to the height of structures at forklift entrances and exits; do not drive in or out blindly.
(10) When driving, unless for business purposes, personnel should not stand next to the forklift driver, and the forklift should not be used to carry passengers or perform other work unrelated to forklift operation.
(11) Do not connect the forklift's electrical circuits, such as batteries, in workshops or hazardous materials warehouses without authorization to avoid generating sparks. (12) Speeding is strictly prohibited.
4. Loading and Unloading Requirements
(1) Goods transported by forklifts should not be too high to avoid obstructing the driver's view and causing accidents; except for short-distance relocation, two pallets of goods must not be transported simultaneously.
(2) When lifting goods, the forks should be tilted up first and then lifted; when lowering, they should be lowered first and then tilted.
(3) When using a forklift for work, one must stand firmly on a pallet with a base before working; standing on the forks is prohibited.
(4) Do not transport loose goods to avoid tipping over; secure them firmly before transport; use pallets to lift items; unstable objects, such as tall equipment, empty barrels, easily sliding cylinders or objects, must be tied with ropes and tightened before lifting.
(5) Flammable, explosive, toxic, or other dangerous goods must not be directly transported using the forks.
(6) When parking, do not leave the forks suspended in the air; the driver must not leave the forklift while the forklift is suspended in the air. (7) No one may stand under the forks, whether or not they are loaded.
(8) Unloaded goods must be neatly stacked in a location that does not obstruct passage. Neither goods nor the forklift may be parked at passageway entrances.
5. Parking Requirements
(1) After operation, park the forklift in the designated location, with the forks flat on the ground, and perform necessary checks, cleaning, and maintenance on the vehicle. Parking the forklift inside the warehouse or obstructing safety passages is strictly prohibited; on rainy days, please park the forklift under a rain shelter.
(2) After parking, adjust the forks to the center position.
6. Maintenance Requirements
(1) Clean the forklift once a week to keep the vehicle clean.
(2) Pay attention to maintenance. Before driving, if any abnormal brakes or other malfunctions are found, promptly report them to the supervisor so that the service provider can be contacted for handling.
(3) During normal operation, if any abnormal noises or malfunctions are detected in the forklift, stop immediately and repair it. Drivers are not allowed to perform repairs themselves.
